Introduction

I will be running my maiden 100km road event at the Sundown Ultramarathon 2011 in Singapore next month. It will be my longest running event, as I have never done anything above 42.195km in a single day. The last long ‘run’ event I did was the Sabah Adventure Challenge(SAC) where I ran a total of +/- 70km of trail over 2 days, coming in 4th after Singapore, Hong Kong and France trail runner! The longest walk would be ages ago at the Penang 12hours Walk where I walked nearly 60km. I have been preparing for the Ultra event for nearly 4 month now,intermixed with several other events (SAC and Kenyir Triathlon) and it is merely a month away before I stand at the start line in Marina Barrage, Singapore to run my longest !!

As I go on with my daily life, whether walking or running, I thought it would be more meaningful for me to run the ultra for a cause. For that reason, I am happy to share with you that I am initiating a charity cause dedicated to the Japan tsunami and earthquake victims. And while we have gone through the phase of mourning of this tragedy and expressing our condolences to our brothers and sisters in Japan, you can extend your good intention through this charity cause I am currently organizing called ‘To Japan, With Love’. It is never too late to lend a helping hand.

The Idea

The idea is to get donors (that’s you!), whether corporate or individuals, to come in as pledger. Each meter pledged is worth RM50. For individuals, you are free to pledge any distance (and amount) that you wish to. All donations are directed to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society’s Japan Earthquake and Tsunami fund.

Among the written Benefits : a chance to have your names printed on the official t-shirt along with other sponsors. Names will be mentioned on the event website ! The official T-shirts will be given out to donors of more then RM100, after I complete the ultra marathon. This is due to the tight budget that I am working this charity program on ! 2x Exclusive postcards designed by missjewelz herself for donations below RM100.

Why it matters to missjewelz

missJeweLz is the pen name I use when I blog. I realize that something as simple as running can do and make a lot of difference in one’s life. Through running I discovered that I do have that will power in realizing something that I wish or want, whether in sports or in life generally (Hey, you do too !). Through running, I have developed my sense of ‘self’ and ‘others’. While there are time where we have to think or ‘our’ selves, it is that balance between ‘self’ and ‘others’ that matters. Achieving that balance is tricky especially in this century where it is mostly about satisfying others, or the extreme opposite; self-indulgence. Through running I have met, ran and exchanged stories with so many friends. Through running and the sharing of what I do (running and sports la, what else!) I have inspired myself and plentiful of others to keep on going no matter how the difficult the course may be. If there is a will, there is surely a way. I am sure most of you can relate to this.

I do not have any other skills that I can make use of to the benefits of others. A degree in Psychology does not translate to better the lives or many others, yet alone my own. But one thing that you and I may have in common, is that desire to finish that running, triathlon or duathlon distance since we are committed to it, and I don’t see why we can’t join ‘forces’ to make a little change in someone else’s life. A good change.

I am committing myself to a distance of 100km, and I want to invite to YOU join me to make this run a meaningful one. Do join this cause to aid the affected Japanese victims and help rebuilding their lives. Amen.

How it works

While I am organizing this on a low budget, (sorry, I can’t afford any PR companies/agents at the moment), there are no fancy-nancy promos. Just a straight-up relaying of information, and simple procedure of how you can donate, which I have listed below: -

1. Fill in the individual sponsorship form (follow the instructions!), transfer the fund to Malaysian Red Crescent Society’s ‘MRCS INTERNATIONAL RELIEF FUND’ via Maybank Account

No – 5144 – 2210 – 2657. SAVE the transaction receipt.

My friends were surprised why the heck i registered for half-marathon for this Marathon Singapore. I should have taken Full-marathon for this, worth the money spent & distance to travel down there to Singapore. But this time, i decided to take it easy, just go there ‘lari-lari makan angin’, and it turned out to be really a relaxing, stroll in the city run

Gathered with other Chap Ayam Runners at KL Sentral on 3/12/2010 nite, we departed for Singapore at 11.00pm by night train. Arrived there the next morning, greeted by morning shower at Singapore.

We checked-in at Checkers Inn (http://www.checkersinn.com.sg/), a backpackers hostel at Bugis. It’s a nice & cozy hostel. Each room can accommodate abt 8 persons, with 4 double decked bed, all air-conditioned. Complete with a big kitchen with dining area, 2 PCs for guests to browse the internet. Even there’s free WiFi also for guest to surf the net at the comfort their room. Cost me for SGD30 per day, it’s a cheap & affordable option. Then we off to Marina Bay to collect our race kit.

The half-marathoners, me, Aini & Ecah departed to the nearest MRT station, Little India MRT, will take us straight to Harbour Front station. The starting line is on the Sentosa bridge. Its enough time for us to do some light stretching & warm up. Race started at 6.30am sharp. Can see sea of runners taking part.

The early stage, the route take us around the hilly Sentosa Island. Its my 1st time being there. The best part in Sentosa Island here is of course the Universal Studio. Myself getting so excited upon entering it. The 1st thing I saw was the Far Far Away castle. In front of the castle, stand Shrek & the beautiful Princess Fiona. Some people start to queue to take photos with them, and I follow suit hhahaha.. so relaxing run isnt it? Then i saw the Madagascar characters, Woody Woodpecker, Ceylon & others. I just take my own sweet time inside there, nothing to rush coz this is a big opportunity for me to get inside Universal Studio, FOC

Out from Universal Studio, we ran on a basement car park of Sentosa. So stuffy & the air was filled with buses & car smoke. Continue my run out of Sentosa Island, stop here, stop there and take photos. Stop at water stations & take a 2-3mins break there. LOL, i never did a run like this before really like a stroll in the park kind of run.

Long story short, i’m approaching the finish line at the Padang. Take out the camera, and snap the crowds & celebrations going on there, its so happening. Get my finisher’s medal and gathered with Chap Ayam Runners.

On that evening, we went to Queensway Shopping Centre. There’s a lot of sports shop inside. It’s like Pertama Complex in KL. Can bargain, it’s even on Christmas Sale at that time. I didn’t buy anything, didnt plan to buy anything. Most of the prices there were as same as in Malaysia. Except, not many brand in here i can find in Malaysia.

The next morning, before check-out we headed to Bugis Street & Mustapha Centre for last minutes shopping. We checked out at 12pm. We walked to Bugis bus station to take bus to Larkin. Reached Woodlands checkpoint, we have to disembark from the bus, walk through the immigration lane, then go down, board the bus again. About 5 mins later, we reached Malaysian Immigration, have to disembark again, walk through the immigration check, then board the bus again. Huhhhh, what a tedious process.

We reached Larkin, had lunch there. Our bus to KL will be at 3pm. We reached Bukit Jalil station at 8pm. Took the Star & Putra LRT to Wangsa Maju. Reached home abt 10.30pm. What a nice holiday+run at Singapore with Chap Ayam Runners members.

Seminggu ni aku kene baca buku ni... uh uh uh otak dah berkarat nih

Agaknya dah brp lama dah aku tak update blog aku ni. Dah lost track dah. Sbbnya aku terlampau lah busynya dgn keje harian & latihan.

Ok lah. Dgn kesempatan ni, kebetulan aku ada 1 mende baru yg berlaku dlm life aku. Aku nak update kat sini. Aku akan ambil lesen diving dlm this weekend. Hr sabtu (10/4/2010) aku dah amik kursus dlm pool. So next step, aku akan turun laut plak di Pulau Perhentian. Dan di sana nnti akan ada juga ujian bertulis. Hopefully cita2 aku ni akan tercapai. Aminnn….

Bila sampai sana, dah dgr bunyi kereta2 GT tgh berkumandang, maybe tgh free practice session agaknya. Teruja aku sehhhh dgr bunyi enjin kereta super GT. Rasa tak sabar nak tengok. Setelah amik pass, rasa bosan plak nak balik awal2 ni. Dah alang2 drive jauh2 ni, baik aku usha2 jap apa yg ada. Tengok masih belum ramai pengunjung. Seat2 di grand stand pon tak byk org lagi. Aku pon pegi ke media centre, jumpa member aku. Lepas borak2, layan kejap Formula V6 Asia & Aston Martin Race 1. Pastu, aku pon rasa nak blah aaa… Ari ni mmg takde mood langsung nak turun trek amik gambar. Ni jer ler gambar sket2 yg aku amik.

Ok. Demikian shj update utk 1st day ni. Actually bukan 1st day Super GT ni, 2nd day utk Super GT, tp 1st day aku berada di sini. Nantikan lagi report & gambar2 menarik dr Super GT Sepang 2009.

Actually, aku tak sengaja pegi tengok battle of the band ni. Asalnya aku nak cari mende lain. Sekali ada plak event ni kat sini. Perghhh.. Apa lagi, layan ler sekali.. Sampai habis aku layan. Bleh plak kat sini aku jumpa 2 member jamming aku, Zaharin & Jamal. Mcm tau2 jer diorang ni. Bleh kata, di mana ada battle of the band, di situ ler ada kitorang. heheheh.

Secara ringkasnya, event ni dianjurkan oleh Power House Musical Studio. Telah berlangsung pada 17 & 24 Mei 2009 (Saringan), dan 31 Mei 2009 (Akhir). Diadili oleh 3 juri professional, salah seorangnya yg aku kenal Abg Yazid(drummer Search).

Best juga layan mende ni. Dah lama tak pegi concert rock. Tgk yg main sumer line budak2 awal 20an. Hanya 1 group tu jer aku nampak mcm otai sket. Wa suspek lu semua lahhh!!! Aku ingat jaman2 skrg ni budak hip hop jer ramai. Rupanya ramai gak layan rock nih. Best2. Tp kat sini tak bleh nak layan headbanging sgt aaa. Hahaha. Takde yg buat. Kang aku buat sorang2 kang org kata gila ker hapa mamat nih. Layan hangguk jer ler.

Anugerah pemenang diberi kepada vocalist, drummer, bassist, guitarist & yg plg grand skali band terbaik. Mereka yg menang memang layak utk menang, tepat skali pilihan juri. Band yg menang tak silap aku kumpulan Virus. Suara vocalist dah mcm Amy Search. Memang patut ler ko menang vocalist terbaik bro.

Ok lah. Cukup ngan celoteh. Kita layan gambar dr camera phone aku yg tak seberapa.
